What is sound bath?
You may have heard of the term “sound bath” and wondered, what’s that all about? Rest assured there is neither water, nor tubs, involved and participants remain fully clothed.
Sound bath refers to the experience of listening to vibrational instruments, like singing bowls, which are played to foster deep relaxation and revitalization effects.
Focusing our awareness intentionally and using our sensory capabilities in this directed way invites a powerfully therapeutic and restorative process to begin in the mind and body.
My practice encourages the exploration of the mindscape by using unstructured sounds. Unlike music, the use of un-patterned tones is used to bring awareness to the present moment and restore our energies.
Participants are encouraged to get as comfortable as possible while listening, using yoga mats and combinations of neck, head and knee cushioning. Every participant’s comfort level is important. If lying down is not feasible or comfortable, a seated position can be taken and the experience will still be effective.
A sound bath can have immediate results! My teacher and mentor Sara Auster is fond of saying “If meditation is like taking the stairs, then sound bath is like taking the elevator.”
